The medieval town of Avignon is a feast for the eyes. A lot of the structures here are well preserved though they might be used for a different purpose from the original. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site which makes sense for them to protect everything they can. I was walking along the main road of Rue de la Republique, a name which seems to be in common most cities. What can be immediately seen is how important this street feels. There are shops lining the streets including brand name ones. I wasn’t looking for any shopping yet since I still have a ways to go in my trip.
One of the structures which caught my eye was a church looking structure. If it weren’t for the sign outside the structure, I would have thought it was a church. It actually originally was a church but these days it is used as a museum for sculpture, vases and glass called Avignon Musée – Lapidaire. The door wasn’t open at the time of my visit but I probably wouldn’t have gone in anyway. The old church looked magnificent and it was very well preserved. It probably gives an indication of the quality of the preservation here in Avignon.
