Ruins at the Ancient Theater of Arles

The ancient theater of Arles is the third of five sites which was included in the UNESCO World Heritage site listing of Arles. It also happens to be the third ancient theater that I have visited in this trip. I didn’t expect to run into that many in a single trip but it just goes to show how little I actually know about this area of Europe. The ruins are actually a welcome change from the stereotypical sights I would think of when people speak of France. The theater actually covers a rather large area and you can actually see it from the outside. Of course, I would not settle for merely looking from the outside, I needed to see it up close.

I followed some tourists to the entrance of the theater which has a ticket booth. I already bought a ticket which covers these major sites so I just needed to flash it. The theater grounds is actually divided into two. One part is basically ruins while the other part is the theater itself. Honestly, it doesn’t look too impressive. Just across the seating are a set of ruins which is probably the stage. There were columns still standing here but not much else. I would like to think it would have been similar to the impressive theater in Orange but there wasn’t much about the theater here.
