Thoughts on the Baths of Constantine in Arles

Inside the Baths of Constantine in Arles

It is always amazing to see how a two thousand year old structure has been preserved all this time. The Baths of Constantine are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site listing of the city of Arles which happens to have a lot of Roman related stuff. This is the first time I have heard of Arles but knowing that they have a lot of ruins from the Roman empire, this has helped me gain a better appreciation of their civilization. The baths though quite well preserved were still in a ruined condition. Add to the fact that I don’t know what a public bath is makes it even more difficult to imagine how it was back then.

The Baths of Constantine served as a good introduction for me for the city of Arles. I would probably be spending most of the day here, so for a change, I will not be rushing from one place to another. Well, that may not be entirely true since there were a few sites in Arles which one needs to visit. I intend to visit them all today since I was already here. I was concluding my exploration of the Baths of Constantine and better knowledge of how people in the Roman empire lived and maybe what we can learn from it.
