I was surprised how quickly I arrived at the city of Arles. I was under the impression is was a bit further away from Avignon than the previous town I visited. This is good since I don’t have to spend too much time traveling from place to place. It seemed like I planned my base of operations well. Avignon is well positioned to provide easy access a lot of the cities and town I liked to visit. The train station of Arles is just outside the city center. That means I need to do a little walking to get there. I was hoping it would be easy enough to navigate here since it is a much bigger city.
I was walking along a river which turned out to be the Rhône. I remember the Rhône was one of the rivers which passed through Lyon. It has made its way south to the city of Arles and eventually to the sea. Now that I looked at the map, I didn’t realize that Arles was actually a coastal city even if it wasn’t that obvious. There seemed to be the remains of an old bridge which doesn’t have a span anymore. All that was left were the two end points which sit on both sides of the Rhône. There is a newer bridge downstream but it didn’t seem that interesting.
