I never heard of the city of Orange but it seems that the Romans set up shop here and established the city in the year 35 BC. It seemed to be important enough that it was described that numerous buildings in Rome have been replicated in Orange of course with a scaled down version of the original considering the population of the city. In fact, Orange is significant enough to show up on ancient maps. Unfortunately, not too much of these structures were left. Little Rome “only” has the ancient theater and an arch as a reminder of days past.
Orange is a charming little town. It doesn’t have the tourist traffic of a city like Paris or even nearby Avignon. But it is convenient enough to get to from the latter. Local officials have done a good job prettying up the city. The town center is not very large. There are a few shops here like restaurants but nothing much. But that is probably what makes this place charming. It is a small town where everyone knows each other. Unfortunately for the locals, there is a UNESCO World Heritage in their town so people from all over would be coming here.
