When I was planning my visit to France, I was thinking of visiting the southern part. I have been to Paris and its surrounding areas but I have never been to the south. Lyon seemed to be a natural base of operations and I thought to make my way down. Avignon seemed to be nice place for me to spend a couple of days. There are a few UNESCO World Heritage sites in the area and they seemed to be convenient enough to visit. My latest visit is the Roman Theater of Orange. When I was in Lyon, I got to see a large theater and I thought it was just some kind of coliseum. Obviously, it was built for performances but if they have a UNESCO World Heritage site dedicated to a theater, I wondered how special the theater can be.
The commune of Orange is only a twenty minute train ride away from Avignon, which makes it a very convenient place to visit. Orange didn’t seem to be very large but it seemed to a quaint place to visit. I would probably hang around here a little more after I complete my visit to the theater. It wasn’t long until I finally ran into the theater. It was in the center of town and it was difficult to miss. From the outside, it didn’t seem to be very impressive. In fact, I couldn’t even see where the theater was. I see some ruins which don’t appear to be very impressive. I can’t even tell what they used to be. I was having second thoughts about this place but there seemed to be a part which I can’t see. There is an entrance fee here and I thought I should just go in a see what this place was all about.
