Fourvière Hill is one of the most important places in Lyon. It is here where a lot of local history can be found and it can stretch all the way to the Roman empire. Not a lot of places would be able to boast of such a heritage and still continue on with the development of the city. I would not consider Lyon to be museum city by any means since they have carefully integrated much of their old history into their modern history. A stroll in Fourvière Hill feels like one is journeying across time. It was time for me to move on from ancient Roman Gaul.
When I was still across the river looking at Fourvière Hill, I was admiring the structures which were perched on top of the hill. One of the more striking structures here was a church. I went up to take a closer look at this church and it turned out to be larger than I thought. This was the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière. Thinking about it, I am not surprised there is a large church here. The hill appears to be a center of activity in the city, it is only natural that a church would be built here.
