I enjoyed walking through the old city of Lyon, the place is wonderfully preserved and it despite it being on a hill, it was still an enjoyable walk. I realize that Lyon has more history than I want to take up in a single day. I will probably cherry pick the sights here since I can’t be everywhere all in one day. This brings me back to my “excellent” planning skills where I would end up just skimming the surface of a new place. In the case of Lyon, I think one day would be too short. I ended up reaching what appears to be almost the top of the hill, it seems that this is one of the oldest parts of the city.
There were signs pointing to the some Roman ruins here Fourvière Hill. My world history was never good but apparently, the Roman empire reached this area. There were structures where were built here and still exist up to this day. The Odeon of Lyon is one of the major Roman sites here in Lyon. Surprisingly, there was no entrance fee to the site itself. One can access the site from different points. I’m glad this is the case since heritage sites are meant to be shared with everyone.
