It seems that I could keep walking the streets of Lyon since they looked so pretty. The streets are brightly lit and it didn’t feel unsafe. Perhaps I was walking in the city center which tends to be better lit but I enjoy walking here compared to Paris. It was obviously not as crowded here as in Paris but it doesn’t feel like it is a ghost town either. There were shops all around and it is a very lively city. Some of the shops have already closed for the day but the restaurants are still open.
I enjoy how the managed to keep the authenticity of the city intact. This is what I like about European cities which retained the old parts of the town and just build around it. This is probably what makes Lyon special. It is described to incorporate the old structures as development of the city was done over the centuries. This resulted in a city where you can visually see the development across the ages. Although it was safe here at night, I don’t want to be wandering too far away from my hotel. There is still tomorrow, and I think I want to head back to the hotel, using the scenic route of course.
