Back in the old days, Poland was also a monarchy much like the rest of Europe. However, the Poland of that time was different from the Poland that is seen today. For one thing, Malbork itself was a territory of the Teutonic order. They seemed to be more like mercenaries and the rulers of Poland didn’t think favorably of them. Nearby Prussia also didn’t like them so they worked together with the king of Poland who was Casimir IV Jagiellon to get rid of the order. The Teutonic Order was defeated and Malbork including Prussia, came unto Polish rule.
History, as they say, it written by the winners. It seemed that King Casimiar IV Jagiellon was a well renowned king. There is a statue of him entering the town of Malbork as he did when he took the town from the Teutonic Order. This area seems to be a small park and there is actually a McDonald’s nearby. It was a holiday at the time so the fountain wasn’t working. There weren’t a lot of people hanging about either. It was just along the way back to the train station so I decided to take a few shots. This place seems to be some pedestrianized area. I think I will take a closer look at this place.
