Tower at Plac Słowiański in Malbork

I realized that Malbork has more to offer than just the largest castle in the world by land area. There are a lot of heritage structures here and I just happen to run into them as I make my way back to the railway station. What seems to be obvious was that brick was the building material of choice back then. It is very attractive and I guess it was reasonably strong. I was walking my way down downtown Malbork and I ran into another heritage structure. This one is a tower. I wasn’t sure what kind of tower this was since there was no signs about it.

Even when I look this place up in Google Maps, it didn’t even have a name on it. It didn’t appear to be related to any of the nearby structures so I assumed that it was a standalone structure. I would think that this might be a tower similar to the ones built all over Europe. There were not related to the church and were normally used to indicate the prosperity of the town. The doors of the tower were closed. And so were the windows, which makes me think that this is not in active use anymore even for tourism. It is a well preserved structure and it is good to see that it is still standing.
