I finally made my way around Malbork Castle. It was huge but it was a pity that I could not see what was inside. Certainly, a castle of this size has to be quite impressive inside too. The castle is in remarkable condition but this was also because half of it was reconstructed after it was destroyed in the war. I only spent a couple of hours exploring the castle grounds. I was expecting to be able to spend the better part of the day here but the castle was closed to visitors for a public holiday. It was a mistake for me not to have realized what time of the year it was.
I decided to head back to Warsaw and just kick back and relax. As I was making my way back to the train station, not too far from the castle was a church. I wasn’t sure if this was related to the church in anyway but it was also made of the same material which the castle was built from. This was Saint John the Baptist Church in Malbork. It seems that this church has been in this spot for centuries. It naturally doesn’t show it’s age. Apparently, this is the latest incarnation of this church at this spot having been destroyed several times over the centuries.
