I was obvious that Malbork Castle was something impressive but I just didn’t know much about it other than what I was seeing. It was a public holiday and I can’t get in the castle itself. I was left to explore the castle grounds from the outside. I learn that Malbork actually has three castles, higher, middle and the lower. It was difficult to see which is which since there weren’t any signs. I made my way back to the castle since I decided I would make my way back. There was little reason for me to stay here since I can’t get in the castle.
I passed an impressive wooden bridge. Apparently, this is a covered bridge which leads the lower castle. The bridge looks very well maintained. It rose above the ground almost as if water was meant to be below it. Where I was walking at was probably a moat back in the day. It doesn’t have water now but walking further on, it did become a bit muddy. Perhaps the moat still fills up when it rains a lot. I don’t see photos of the castle with a full moat. Maybe it makes it easier to preserve the structure if it isn’t wet all the time.
