I was getting ready to explore Malbork Castle. It is billed as the largest castle in the world by land area. You just have to love how people would describe something as the largest something followed by a qualifier. Still, largest still means largest. This also means that I have a lot of walking to do. One thing which struck me when I arrived at the castle grounds was how few people there were. I was thinking that this place probably wasn’t worth visiting since even the locals don’t come here. It was only until much later that I realized that it was actually a public holiday, and the castle was closed to visitors.
Fortunately, you don’t need a ticket to be able to explore the castle grounds. Unfortunately, this also means that I won’t be able to see what is inside the castle. This is unfortunate since I read that the interior of the castle was nice. Additionally, my return ticket to Warsaw was much later in the afternoon and I would have to spend some time waiting for my train. It was difficult to explain how to explore Malbork Castle, since it is so large. There are numerous access points to the castle since it is much like a public park now. There is a ticket only area but that would be inside the castle. I would just content myself with the fact that I have the largest castle in the world by land area all to myself.
