When coming to visit the Kalwari Zebrzydowska, one must come prepared. The area covered by the UNESCO World Heritage site is quite large and it would be almost impossible to cover this on foot within a reasonable amount of time. I’m sure people would come here on holy days to do just that, but from the perspective of a tourist, it would not be feasible to do this on foot. The Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is not just one site but it is a collection of structures scattered across the hills to mimic the calvary which is outside Jerusalem. I was already on my way to explore some of the structures which are all over the town.
I merely followed some arrows which were pointing to a Herod’s Palace which sounded interesting, not to mention that it didn’t seem too far away. I may be out of shape for hiking but it seemed that the place seemed further than I thought it would. Fortunately, the weather was cooperative and it was a good day for walking. I finally came across one of these chapels which didn’t seem to appear in their map of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. It was a small chapel like structure which Bramaza 7 written on the doorway. That turned out to be Gate 7. I don’t really know what Gate 7 meant since it wasn’t on the map. This turned out to be a frustrating visit since you don’t really know what you are seeing.
