The best way to see Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is using a car or at least a bicycle. The area covered by the site is too large to cover on foot. At the very least one should go visit the monastery here and there would be a few spots nearby. Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is the brainchild of Mikolaj Zebrzydowski to whom the place was named after. Being a very religious man, he thought it would be nice to replicate the calvary which is in Jerusalem. I had to walk up the hill to get to the main sight which is the monastery or the sanctuary as they called it.
I was actually surprised the sanctuary wasn’t grander than it actually is. Then again, it is supposed to be a monastery so overt displays of riches are not encouraged. The monastery has a large plaza outside. It seems that it is set up on a hill and it seems to be taller than it actually is. I was already huffing and puffing by the time I got to the tower. The church wasn’t very large at all considering that it is the centerpiece of the calvary. There was music streaming out from the church but it might be recorded music since there was no service when I was there.
