I was visiting a town called Kalwaria Zebrzydowska which is short bus ride away from Krakow. I was dropped at the town bus stop and I was let to figure out the rest. I do have my maps on my phone but this place doesn’t seem to be a place for tourists. There weren’t a lot of signs pointing the correct way to go. It seems that the entire place is the UNESCO site. There are a few interesting places here but there wasn’t any public transport for that. The only way I had was to walk. To better understand what I am going through it is best to know what exactly is this Kalwaria Zebrzydowska.
Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is a calvary modeled after the calvary in Jerusalem. This depicts the passion and death of Jesus on his way to calvary. There are churches and chapels along the way representing each step of the passion. I never knew of such a thing since I was only aware of the stations of the cross which are present in churches. These “stations” in a calvary would be spread out over a large area, in the case of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, an entire town. I found out belatedly that the best way to see this place is to have a car. The town is very spread out as well as the sights to see here. I would only be able to see a few here before giving up.
