Okay, we have seen how people who were detained at the Auschwitz were harvested of everything they own. A mountain of shoes gave visitors and indication of how many people actually died here. The sad truth about it is that, it was only a fraction of the people who were murdered here, whose shoes still made it to the present day. The next building, we were showed some of the faces of the people who were killed here. As expected, I wasn’t enjoying my visit, but I think I owe it to the murdered to know what happened here.
The next building, we were shown where the prisoners were kept. Initially they only slept on the floor but some orders were given the build beds for the prisoners. I guess, they needed to keep the prisoners alive long enough to make the serve their purpose. The beds were a temporary luxury for the prisoners since most of them will be sent to their death over the years. There was a room which was an interrogation room. Basically, any “troublemakers” would be sent here to be tried by court. The judgement is rarely in the prisoner’s favor. To keep the prisoners under control, the troublemakers would be sent to their deaths, as an example to everyone else.
