I was very glad to have toured the Wooden churches and tserkvas of southern Poland, it was hitting two UNESCO sites in one trip. It wasn’t the easiest one to make which is why I was glad to have done it. I was spending a few days in Krakow and it was time for me to visit one of the more well known sites here in the country. To be honest, I was having second thoughts on visiting this place but I think this is one of those places which one needs to visit in their lifetime. The town is called Oświęcim but it is probably best known or more infamously known for being the site of the Auschwitz – the largest overseas German concentration camp.
Now, I’m not a history buff and I don’t really know much about the history of World War I or II but I am aware of the horrors which were done in these concentration camps. The Auschwitz has been turned into a museum which showcases the life with the walls of the camp. I think it was hard to visit this place alone so they usually have these in groups. A tour bus from the old town of Krakow has pick up service which will pick up passengers from nearby points. My pick up point was just a few doors down the apartment where I was staying in. The town was some distance away. The trip somehow made me think of the people who would be herded into the camps by the Germans. I hope I am ready for this visit.
