The Church of the Assumption of Holy Mary and Saint Michael the Archangel in Haczów is quite large. This is especially made more so by the large roof which covers most of the lower half of the church. It is so large that the doors have been covered and a special doorway had to be made from the roof. As it turned out, the door leads down to the church. There was a more space here than it looked like from the outside. The ground is actually lower than the door which gives it a lot more space. I don’t understand why they didn’t just dig out the dirt outside so give the church more light especially for the lower level.
The inside of the church happened to be open to visitors so I was able to explore the place. As expected, the church was also made of wood inside. It was quite dark as gothic churches tend to be. The church had wooden pews on the both sides and it seems that they were quite narrow and rather uncomfortable. This probably explains why there is a larger and more modern church outside the old church. I was waiting for my eyes to adjust to the darkness but I can already see the interiors of the church.
