I was in the town of Haczów somewhere in southern Poland. I was on my way to visit the Wooden Church of Southern Lesser Poland. The town of Haczów seems to have one of them. I entered the town of Haczów and it seemed to be very different from Blizne. For one thing, it is much more modern and much more people. The satnav was leading me to a church and I was confused because the church looks very much modern. It was then I was led to the carpark behind the modern church, all of a sudden the old wooden church popped up. It was hidden from view all along. I was glad that I punched in the coordinates of the wooden churches to make sure that I would be able to find them.
The Church of the Assumption of Holy Mary and Saint Michael the Archangel in Haczów is considered the oldest and largest wooden gothic church in Europe. I don’t think there would be too many of these wooden churches left but this one seems to be in fine shape. The church shares a lot of characteristics with the previous church I visited, particularly the prominent roof. In this case, the church has two levels of roof. You can even say the roof is built ridiculously low that they have to cut out part of the roof to build the door. It was a strange design but I didn’t know why the roof was built so close to the ground. Maybe the weather’s is really bad here. Speaking of which I really needed to get inside, the rain was really coming down.
