I was looking at the map of the area in Wieliczka and it seems that there is a place called Saltworks Castle here. I wasn’t aware that there is a castle around here so I was looking around to see where it is. I had no idea that it was nearby and I only found out when I walked past the marker for the castle. It didn’t really look anything like a castle as I imagined. The castle looked more like a large house. It wasn’t very clear where the entrance was, nor did I see anyone going in the castle. At that point, I decided to just forget about the castle and just explore whatever I can get to.
The Saltworks Castle is so named because the administrator of the mine stayed here. The administrator, obviously the most powerful person in the area buils a residence fit for a king, or rather an administrator. There were walls that were built to keep unwanted visitors away. There are still remnants of the walls that can be seen to this day. These days, it houses a museum about the mine. It didn’t seem that people were interested in this place so I just stayed outside and took photos.
