It seems that from hereon, we would be brought to a series of chambers which were carved out of rock salt. It was difficult to imagine that this whole place used to be filled with rock salt but it has already been excavated over the centuries, leaving behind these hollow chambers. The chambers have since been turned into tourist attractions, some of which can hold events like concerts or weddings. There was one chamber which was dark and served as a demonstration how how the mine would have sounded back then. There were explosions being heard and lights flashing to add drama to the demonstration. Below all that was another very deep pool of salty water.
We were led to another chamber which is named the Józef Piłsudski Chamber. This one seemed to be quite special. It has prominent wooden supports painted white much like the Michalowice chamber’s supports but what makes this chamber different is that there is a pool of water here as well as a tunnel which connects to another chamber. I understand that it used to be possible to ride a boat to travel from one chamber to another but I didn’t see anyone doing it. Perhaps they already put that to a stop. It was almost like a gondola ride but deep underground. What is interesting was that this seemed to have been built for purely tourism purposes and that was way back in the 18th century.
