We continued on the tourist trail in the Wieliczka Salt Mine. It seems that there were a lot more sites to see within the mine itself. I was under the impression that Saint Kinga’s chapel would be the end of the route. We were led to a chamber whose ceiling seemed incredibly high. It is high enough as it is but you would remember that this was all underground, then it starts to blow your mind. This place is called the Michałowice Chamber. And it happens to be one of the largest chambers in the mine.
The chamber is indeed very impressive. To know that is still not the largest chamber in the mine is quite amazing. The chamber was obvious carved out over the years to how it is today. What is impressive here are the wooden supports which have been built to prevent the collapse of the chamber. I don’t know how often the tunnels collapse here but they seem to have mastered the art quite well, to the point that they have incorporated design into the structure. The wooden supports are painted white and stand out quite well from the dark rock. There is also a large chandelier here which is also one of the largest in the mine. I understand that they can have events in this chamber as well.
