We were led out of Saint Kinga’s Chapel at the Wieliczka Salt Mine. I was still very much amazed at the place. I saw it in photos but it really is special to see it in person. Seems that there were a few groups that were being led out of the tunnels so it was a bit crowded there. The chapel was spacious but it became bad when people were funneling into the tunnel. It took us a bit of time to get out. Fortunately, there was stuff to see here. Along the way, we passed by what appeared to be a pool of water. It was dubbed an underground lake. I’m pretty sure this wasn’t natural but no one was able to confirm.
The pool of water had a nice shade of blue even in the darkness of the chambers. I could only imagine that this pool must be quite deep to have that kind of color. Perhaps the minerals which are mixed in the water give it that shade. The water, unsurprisingly, has very high salt content and I would liken it to the waters of the Dead Sea, which is the saltiest body of water on earth. There wasn’t any swimming allowed here but I could imagine that the buoyancy of the water here would be similar to the Dead Sea.
