I took a train from Warsaw Central to Krakow Główny railway station. The train was very comfortable and I didn’t have any seatmates, so I had the seats all to myself. I feel bad whenever I think how much more convenient transport would be if there were trains where I lived. The train to Krakow too less than three hours to arrive. There were a few stops along the way but none of the names sounded familiar. The thing is I wasn’t sure if the Krakow was the last stop of the train line so I can’t afford to fall asleep on the train lest I ended up somewhere else.
As expected, Krakow Główny was large and busy. It is connected to a fancy shopping center but I wasn’t interested in that yet. I decided to get to the apartment first. From the looks of things, the place doesn’t seem to be that far from the train station. As usual, I needed to walk all the way to the apartment. I would later find out that there is a tram service which brings me near the train station. The apartment is outside the old town of Krakow but it is within walking distance. Bear in mind that the old town of Krakow is actually fairly large. Having the apartment outside the old town probably helped keep the price down.
I think the apartment is similar to the apartment I rented in Warsaw. The building seemed to be abandoned and it was downright scary. I was let in by the management through two doors. A flight of very creaky stairs completes the horror scene. This was no horror ending though. The manager was a very friendly guy named Lukas, apparently he is Polish and grew up in Australia, he has come back to Krakow to set up a business because things have been looking up for the city.
The apartment is actually a large unit divided into multiple units I got a small room with en-suite bathroom. I guess it makes sense that the room was small. Curiously enough there was a second floor in the room. This was probably before he took over the unit. There was no way to go to the second floor, perhaps he would start by installing a latter somewhere so he can make use of the room. Small as the room was, it was still home for the next few days. It wasn’t uncomfortable at all. There was a portable heater in the room since the place didn’t seem to have built in heating at the time. The heater helped a lot keep away the chill. I was happy with the place and I think it was a fair price. Incidentally, the name of the apartment is Boomerang Apartments. If ever I am in Krakow again, I won’t hesitate to come back again, yes, like a boomerang.
