On my way in to the Old Town of Warsaw, I noticed a large building on the right as I was entering the old town. I thought it was an important building but I didn’t have time for it since I needed to check in my stuff. I already walked thirty minutes to get to the old town and I just wanted to drop my backpack. The weather wasn’t good that day so I was just walking about the town trying to see what I can revisit later in the week. That’s when I ended up at the old town entrance once again.
Warsaw wasn’t the first capital of Poland. That honor belongs to Krakow which is in the south of the country. The king decided to move the capital here and the fortunes of Warsaw rose, somewhat. Having the seat of government in your city has its perks, especially when it comes to infrastructure. The old town of Warsaw boomed because of the presence of the royal palace here. At the time of my visit, the palace seemed to be under renovation. Little did I know that the renovation I see, would be insignificant to what it has to go through more than fifty years ago.
