I wasn’t expecting to be going to Slieve League that day. I was intending to go to a totally different place but my trip was hijacked by my friends. I don’t mind it since they brought me to some places which I haven’t visited before. Our next stop is Slieve League, billed as one of Europe’s highest sea cliffs. I have been to the Slieve League before and it is actually one of the first places I have visited when I first came to Ireland. It is considered one of the signature sights here in county Donegal. It is part of the Wild Atlantic Way, a tourist route which bring visitors from the north to the south following Ireland’s Atlantic coast.
People usually enter Slieve League by car. This is usually coming from the village of Teelin. One first encounters a car park, which may lead people to believe that this was the place and leave the car. Sure, people can choose to hike it and I think it would have been a wonderful experience but it is still a fair walk from the first car park to the next one. There is a gate which has to be manually opened and closed. I’m not too sure why there is such a setup here but usually they do this to keep animals from getting in or out.
