I was very satisfied with what I saw at Skellig Michael. The beehive shaped huts were as impressive as they looked. It is a wonder they weren’t made with any mortar. The people here seemed to have mastered the art of stone building with or without mortar. The will to survived in a place like this and shape it into something which is slightly more hospitable is no doubt very impressive. It is no wonder that people come here to see it. The choice of Star Wars to use this as a film location only increased its fame. No wonder Luke Skywalker stayed here.
It was time to go home. We overheard over the radio that the winds are going to pick up and that we should be leaving soon. We made our way down the island and it was actually scarier than climbing up. The winds approaching the Christ’s saddle seemed to be scarier so much that we have to hold on to the hand rails which were thoughtfully placed there. No people flew this time around. The puffin were still there though. Speaking of which, I didn’t see any puffin at the monastery area, it makes you wonder why. Maybe people were always there so they tend to avoid it?
