Looking Down at the Cliffs of Skellig Michael
I have known about Skellig Michael before it was used as a location for Star Wars. For me, it was one of the places that seemed impossible to get to since it was so remote and that the bookings were always full. Lo and behold, I was on a boat ride to the famed island. We were dressed in heavy rain gear. Perhaps it was an indication of how bad the soaking would be. I didn’t get a proper photos of the boat ride since the waters were so rough. The winds were really very powerful and it is no surprise that it was so choppy. Though I was glad to be on the boat, I couldn’t help but worry if I was being foolish, after all, a lot of the other boat operators cancelled trip but this one didn’t.
Skellig Michael
It took more than an hour of constant churning to get to the island. You can see the island coming up in the horizon but I was sitting on a seat which was facing the rear of the boat, which I think was the driest part of the boat. I was excited to have finally arrived but it would still be a challenge to be able to land on the island. Even near the island, the waters were still very rough and a lot of people needed get assistance to get off the boat since it was constantly moving up and down. The trick is to time your leap such that you don’t have to leap up or down. There were people too terrified to make the leap but they were eventually persuaded by the staff. Once on the island, we were asked to take off the water proofing since it will be difficult to move around in such heavy attire.
