After the Rock Close, the vegetation seemed to get much thicker, almost like a jungle. I think that is where they were going for when they set this up. Some of the plants here are among the oldest in the estate with some more than 600 years old. I think it is a nice change of scenery from the forest scenery at the Rock Close. There was an almost steamy feeling in the jungle. It was the height of summer here and though it doesn’t get very hot here, you can still feel the warmth of the sun. If you stay in the sun long enough, it can get quite uncomfortable.
The jungle is something I least expected here in Blarney Castle. There is a lot of water here and one think I expect from jungles are swamps. There are parts of the garden which are prehistoric in appearance. It is almost like the time before the dinosaurs roamed the earth. Algae have formed a layer on top of the water making mats of green. There is a waterfall here as well and I thought it was very nice. The air feels much thicker here such that I didn’t feel very comfortable. I quickly made my way out of the garden to hopefully leave the grounds altogether.
