Swiss Cottage

Swiss Cottage at Cahir

Swiss Cottage at Cahir

I was expecting the Swiss Cottage to be built right beside the river but strangely enough the cottage was nowhere to be seen. Surely something so important as that would be immediately seen here. It was apparently hidden by thick plant life. Visitors have to enter a door which goes down to the basement. I thought that was strange. The path leads to the inside of the house where the admissions is. I was hoping to just take a photo of the cottage but looks like there is no way to avoid paying. It wasn’t that expensive, but if I could save a bit of money, why not?

I was told that there is a guided tour in thirty minutes but from the looks of it, it doesn’t seem like there would any one coming soon. I was asked if I would be interested in a guided tour lite if no one else comes in the next ten minutes. I didn’t mind it at all, I was seated outside the cottage where I can see it in all its glory. It really is very attractive. The organically shaped thatched roof gives the impression that it is from a different country, specifically Switzerland. It really isn’t a Swiss style cottage, but people who haven’t been there attributed it Switzerland and the name stuck. There was a bench outside the house and I sat there just admiring the nice house.
