Inside Cormac’s Chapel

Inside Cormac’s Chapel

There was a surprisingly intact structure here at the Rock of Cashel and it was Cormac’s Chapel. This was a chapel built be a king back in the 1100s. Considering its age, it is in extremely good shape. There seemed to be something special here in this place. For one thing, it seemed to be the only one with a door. The cathedral only had a doorway, but this small chapel had its own. I didn’t see people going in this door so I wasn’t sure if it was just an office. I decided to make a go for it and went in the door.

Turned out that it was actually still part of the sights and arguably one of the most important ones. The inside of the chapel wasn’t very large, one can consider it to be a large room. The inside of the chapel is climate controlled, and you don’t usually see this unless they have something to preserve. It actually wasn’t easy to figure out what was it trying to preserved. Apparently, the chapel became waterlogged over the years and the interiors started deteriorating. There were frescoes here and if one looks closely enough, one can still see the remain fragments of the frescoes. I admit, it wasn’t terribly impressive. It would have been very nice to see it in its prime unfortunately, time has taken its toll on the frescoes.
