When I first came to Ireland, my first introduction to Irish towns and villages was through the window of the bus. Back then, I didn’t know the names of the towns which we passed through, but what I do remember was that the towns seemed to be very pretty. Some looked better than other most of them look good. The bus usually passes through the Main Street of the smaller towns and these Main Streets look pretty. It is not therefore surprising to see the village at Bunratty Folk Park also have its own Main Street.
The village actually is not that big, probably composed of less than twenty structures. There is a Main Street of sorts where most of the structures line. This was probably how it was in the 1800s. village life was probably centered around this street. There are restaurants and even hotels here. There were also shops which sell all sorts of stuff. I thought it was a great idea to setup something like this in the folk park since one can get sick of seeing farmhouses all day. It also shows how the life of the Irish has changed from just mere farmhouses to more upscale towns and cities.
