It was time for me to explore the Bunratty Folk Park. It seems that there was more to see here than just the farmhouses. The land here is quite large and there seems to be quite a few places to see here here. Fortunately, the sights were spread out so one wouldn’t feel crowded at this park. Although, walking along the paths, one would meet people upon arriving at the individual sights, it would usually just yourself there. I was merely following the path here. There were signs for the sights, I happened to pick the horizontal mill.
Now, I wasn’t really sure what it means when it said horizontal mill. When I got there, I saw a lone cottage. I wasn’t sure where the mill part. But I noticed a canal dug from a nearby pond to the house. The water has been blocked from the canal and can be released into the house any time. It seems to use gravity to bring the water in. What wasn’t very obvious to me was that the flowing water would then drive a water wheel. Through this people can generate power to grind stuff, usually grain. It is a shame that I didn’t get to see the mill in action, maybe I could just release the water here.
