Everyone’s first stop at Bunratty Castle is undoubtedly the banquet hall. I wasn’t really sure what the official name of this place was but I do know this is where they hold the banquet for visitors every night. There was a short talk by one of the guides here at the banquet hall. Everyone was dressed in period costumes and everyone seemed to be having fun. The banquet hall itself has a lot of tables. From the shape of the roof, you would think that this was the top most floor. Perhaps that was done by design.
To the far left corner of the hall was a curious hole. It seems that was a small prison or dungeon here. It wasn’t very big but it looked deep. There was a mannequin put in the dungeon and the lights were red, giving it a creepier feel. There were no windows here and the only window is probably the door itself. I thought it was strange to put the prison here but I guess the more important people live above all these and have no reason to deal with prisoners. Out of sight, out of mind. From here visitors climb spiral stairs to get to the next level. I never liked climbing these structures, the staircases were too claustrophobic not to mention the steps are usually too small. Fortunately, the climb wasn’t very long.
