Walking along the Esplanade area was one of my favorite activities in Singapore. I prefer to come here close to sunset so it won’t be as hot. But apart from that it is after sundown that the lights of the central business district come on. There used to be a time when not all of the buildings would turn on their lights maybe just do it on weekend. Seems like now they have it open more frequently. It is nice to look at and I would like to think that the building owners were encouraged to light up at night. Having the lights open helps with tourism as well as projecting a good image of the city.
The Esplanade area is probably one of the best places to appreciate the central business district. There is only the river between the viewer and the central business district which gives visitors an unparalleled view of the place. There are also boats for hire which go out at night an maybe you can see the view from a different vantage point. There are a few locations to view the place, another one would be the Helix Bridge and of course the Marina Bay Sands itself. I remember climbing the Sheares Bridge before to take photos and I thought it was a pretty good spot as well. The Esplanade also has a viewing area which gives you a slightly more elevated point of view.
