I was on my way back to find some dinner but I needed to pass through the Marina Bay Sands to get out. I had no illusions of having dinner here since it can be quite pricey. There is a food court here the last time I checked but I didn’t feel like eating there. The Marina Bay Sands has a several components. Most prominent are the three 50 story towers which make up the hotel. There is a casino here as well which is operated by Sands. The people who come to stay at the Marina Bay Sands and play in the casinos are the upper end of the market segment. The mall here makes up the third compoent of the complex. The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands is the largest luxury mall in Singapore. I have been to this mall several times and I have never bought a single thing here.
I’m obviously not part of the upper end of the market so I can only look at the shops here. I found it interesting that the mall exudes some sort of golden color. Perhaps it is to enhance the impression that this place is a high end place. There are a lot of high end designer shops including some names which I never even heard of. There are a handful of shops for people who do not swim in money, but I think these are more targeted to the staff of the shops here. I like the design of the mall since it feels very spacious. I don’t think most malls in Singapore are like this. The land here is reclaimed and thus they have the luxury of space unlike maybe the malls in Orchard road.
