The bus departed from the Cubao bus terminal at nine in the evening. It has been a while I have been south of Manila. It was difficult to see since it was dark but I did see that it seemed to be much more populated. I got that feeling that the entire way was one big city. There weren’t very clear breaks between cities. Planning was never one of the strong suits of local officials. We stopped a few times along the way, the first one was at Calamba, San Pedro in Laguna and Tiaong and Calauag in Quezon. It was unbelievable how bad the traffic was. It was moving but it was slow. The highway was narrow and there were vehicles all the time. Probably more unbelievable was how the bus and other vehicles for that matter would try to overtake every single chance they get. It was a hair raising experience and not surprising why there are so many road accidents in the news.
By the time morning came I finally knew we were already in Albay province. This early, I could already see the outline of the famous Mayon Volcano and it excited me no end. It wasn’t a while til we got to our destination. The roads were stil narrow as ever but at least you can see what is in front of you. We probably would have gotten there faster if there wasn’t a horrendous traffic jam just outside Legazpi city. Turns out there was an accident and there were fatalities. I can’t say I was surprised seeing how people drive here. I should be used to it but I’m not. I arrived at the bus station at Legazpi city which actually looked better in the photos. I got a tricycle to bring me to Embarcadero Hotel which apparently is at the port area. It seemed to be a reasonably priced hotel.
It wasn’t actually a top rate hotel but it seemed to be decent enough. It is billed as a business hotel. It is located in a shopping mall type of building Embarcadero de Legazpi. I think it was supposed to be an attempt to revitalize the port area here at Legazpi city. The shopping mall is an open type of shopping mall and the hotel is a component of this. Finding the hotel wasn’t very obvious for me. I was expecting that there would be a huge entrance to the hotel, but I had to walk to the third floor to find it. Anyway, I managed to land a small room. It was basic but decent enough. It had air-conditioning and a television with cable TV. There was hot shower as well. I don’t really need much from this place but I must say that I had the best night sleep in two weeks only because of their air-conditioning.
