We finally got back to Amsterdam to meet up with our friend who spent most of the day at the red light district area of Amsterdam. Enough about that, we were scheduled to meet up with a friends of mine who live in Amsterdam. We met up at the Amsterdam central station and we were off on our personal guided tour of the city. I don’t think we would be seeing much here since we still have dinner in mind. My friends brought us to the canals which are undoubtedly the main attraction of the city. The canals were set up to hold the water while the city of Amsterdam was slowly being expanded. The land reclaimed from the swamp lands was pumped dry and you have a city block.
Buildings can’t be built very high here since the ground is quite soft. You can clearly see this since a lot of the buildings here are not standing evenly. It is quite alarming to see a building leaning but I think it has leaned over the years and it is in no danger of toppling over, I think. The canals are a pleasure to explore. There is a lot of boats plying the waters. A lot of these are no doubt tourist boats but I was told that there are also some people who live in the boats which are parked along the canals. Now, if they would make that open to tourists then it might be an interesting experience.
