We were at the edge of the municipality of Beemster. Seems like this part is protected by a dike which prevented water from going in and thus enabling the Dutch to pump water out of Beemster. While it used to be water beyond the dike, it is now land. It seems that the Dutch had continued reclaiming land from the sea after Beemster. We were going to a slight detour here before we continue. It seems that there is a little village here beyond the dike and it is said to be one of the most beautiful Dutch villages. I have seen a few Dutch villages and I would agree that they are very attractive.
There is a narrow road that branches off from the Westdijk. I can see the village pass by and I have been wanting to take photos but we didn’t have any place to park. There seems to be one major road in and out of the village so we had to keep on going hoping to find a place to get out. We actually did find a parking spot and it seemed to be at the end of the road. While the parking area isn’t that huge, there were still a number of cars parked here. I was thinking that it was surprising they have that many vehicles here since one could easily cycle their way out of the village.
