We didn’t really know what is there to see here in Sloten. Someone recommended that we visit this place. It wasn’t that far from where we were so we decided to give it a try. We discovered that it was a water town. Not so much that people were living on stilt houses but there was a lot of water around and this was mainly because of the canals which flow through the city. There is a rather prominent one which divides the city in two. One could probably think of this as a Main Street since there are streets which line the canal. From the looks of it, this seems to be really the center of the town.
There is a bridge where visitors can cross the canal. This is probably the spot to take in the most popular sight in Sloten. We were lucky since the weather was just beautiful. There were smaller boats which line the sides of the canal. I would like to think of it as the equivalent of a parking spot. By following the canal, people can go sailing at either of the two large bodies of water nearby. The place is indeed very picturesque with trees lining both sides of the canal. It really makes Sloten one of the most beautiful I have seen in the Netherlands.
