The guided tour was a surprisingly informative one. I sort of pity our guide as she needed to jump from German to English though see tended to focus more on the German group since we didn’t seem to pay much attention to the guide. How can we if we can’t understand her. She did do her best to accommodate us though. We head back to the visitor center for one final visit. Apparently, there is a small theater here and we were shown video of Ir.D.F. Woudagemaal. The video relates the importance of the pumping station from the point of view of the chief of the pumping station.
The story goes on how there is a huge amount of rain and there seems to be a need to pump out more water than normal. The other station were already busy and it seems Ir.D.F. Woudagemaal needs to help out. It showed how the staff lovingly maintain the entire facility and how excited they were to be called into action. I got to see the station in action but only through the video. There was steam being released and it can be see outside the building. It is actually quite a sight to see. It is a pity we can only see it in videos like these now. Perhaps if they have a schedule for Ir.D.F. Woudagemaal to operate then I think that might be a worthwhile sight. The rest of the visitor center had exhibits about water pumping in the Netherlands and how important these facilities are to keeping their feet dry.
