With car in tow, we decided to go outside the city of Amsterdam to make full use of the rental car. It was a shame since it was expensive to use it in the city, but I guess that it the whole point of making it expensive. We will be going on a roundabout tour of the country and hopefully see interesting things along the way. We are going to Friesland, a province in the northern part of the country. We kind of took the long way there, heading west then heading north. This seems to be a busy route as traffic was quite heavy going there, we will be going to the town of Lemmer where there is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
I don’t know how we would be getting here without a car. I never bothered looking up how to get here by public transportation. However, when we got to the town of Lemmer, I quickly dispelled any notion that I would know how to commute from Amsterdam to Lemmer. The area we went to seemed quite isolated. It was by the water and it didn’t seem to be that popular. I guess this is one of those lesser known UNESCO sites but it is good that we don’t have much competition visiting the place.
