We made a short detour on our way out of the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Unfortunately, the UNESCO World Heritage site listed Van Nelle Factory is open only by appointment and guided tour. It was a unfortunate but we were still able to take photos of the factory from the outside. With that out of the way, we decided to take a roundabout way back to Amsterdam. We will be visiting another UNESCO site which somewhat nearby. Fortunately, we had our satnav with us and we were ready to go wherever it points us. It brought us to a rather rural part of the Netherlands. There were towns along the way but there weren’t as modern as Rotterdam. It took us a bit of time to get there as the traffic was quite bad along the way. Fortunately, I wasn’t driving but I couldn’t sleep either since I needed to guide the driver.
The designated driver was already cursing and swearing at the heavy traffic on our way to our next destination. I was actually quite surprised how heavy it was. Then again, I noticed that the time was already rush hour. There will be a lot of more people on the road at this time. It was funny since the sat nav kept saying that were were already quite near but it was taking us forever to get there. I didn’t imagine we would have taken that long. We finally saw signs pointing to the place Kinderdijk along with their signature sight, the windmill. I didn’t know what to expect here so I was quite interested in this place since we haven’t seen a windmill up close yet.
