How fast time flies, we have stayed several days in Belgium and we were able to go around the country to visit a lot of the famous sights. Most of these places were UNESCO World Heritage sites and they were all worth visiting. However, much as I prefer to just stay in one place to explore it properly, we needed to leave Belgium to meet up with a friend in Amsterdam. I must admit that it never occurred to me to want to visit Amsterdam probably because I hardly know anything about it other than their liberal policy on weed among other things. I wasn’t exactly looking forward to experience that though.
As part of our preparations before coming to Belgium, we booked train tickets out of the country. It is usually a good idea to purchase tickets beforehand since they will be much cheaper than buying them on the day itself. I think this applies most especially to cross border trips. Europe has very good train connections in between countries and it is a breeze to take a trip from one country to another. We purchased a ticket from Thalys, an operator on the Brussels-Amsterdam line. The train was impressive. It is very modern and it is very comfy. It is much perferable to flying since you don’t have to go through the formalities of a check in an immigration checks. Because of this, you can show up a few minutes before your trip. The train departs on time though, so make sure you are. With a peak speed of 300 km/hour, it is a very fast train. We should be able to reach Amsterdam in two hours.
