The Saint Nicholas Church in Ghent is another Gothic church and from the outside it seem to be quite large. I was then surprised to see how little space there actually was inside the church. There were little chapels around the church but it was kind of misleading if you look at it from the outside. There were only two columns of chairs here and it seemed to be a bit of a private church than a cathedral like the building would suggest. There was some sort of art work on display here and around the church. It looks more like some sort of vestment but I wasn’t exactly sure what it is. These vestments are hung in most of the little chapels and to me it looked more like an art exhibit.
I didn’t see any sign which would suggest that it was an art exhibit. I thought it was strange to have that in a church. Then again, is this still a church? There was a organ here which seemed to be quite famous. The altar is still there but I don’t know if services are still being held there. I had a look at their website and there doesn’t seem to a schedule for services at all. They did have schedules for other events like exhibits and concerts. I guess that is what it is right now. There is no point having two churches so close to each other anyway.
