One of the reasons why we came to the city of Antwerp was the presence of a UNESCO Heritage site which happens to be right there in the city. The Plantin-Moretus Museum is another one of those places which I never heard about but is apparently quite important in human history that it was accorded the honor of being in the UNESCO list. It was quite near where we were and fortunately, we had the use of satnav and we were able to locate the place quite easily. It passed through some not very touristy areas in fact, it felt like an industrial area. It was quite appropriate since the Platin-Moretus Museum is a museum dedicated to the history of printing.

The name comes from the Christophe Plantin the founder of the printing company back in the 16th century. Who has various interests including multiple languages. His son-in-law Jan Moretus inherited the printing company but managed to preserve the original stuff until it was sold to the city and subsequently opened as a museum. I was looking forward to this museum since I didn’t really know anything about it. The building was quite large and it seemed to be a busy area. Unfortunately for us, the door was closed. Or rather, they were not accepting visitors. The museum seems to be under renovation. This is the second time, I have been disappointed in this trip. The previous instance was a visit to the Horta Museum in Brussels. It is frustrating to come all the way here and find out that it was closed after all. On my part, I should have done more research on the status of the museum to avoid making the effort in the first place.
