Lunch at Le Prétexte

Carbonnade at Le Prétexte

Carbonnade at Le Prétexte

It was another miserable day in Brussels. We rainy weather the previous day didn’t let up and it seems to be worse the before. Where as before we could get away with just getting a little wet from the rain, this time we would get soaked. I didn’t have an umbrella with me. Funny how I used to always have one with me. I was intending to visit another important sight in Brussels. This one has to do with one of its well known architects. I have always been a fan of architecture and seeing the works of this person would have made my day. Unfortunately for us, the museum was closed that day and it was still raining. The next best thing would be to just eat.

It was difficult to find a place to eat with the rain coming down. There were a few restaurants in the area but not really appealed to me. We were almost ready to take the bus to get back to town when we discovered a nice little restaurant – Le Prétexte. It seems to be a neighborhood restaurant but they did have some stuff for the tourist. I had a list of local food I wanted to try here and Le Prétexte seemed to have one of them. My friend ordered an omelette which seemed very nice. I had some carbonnade which is basically Flemish beef stew cooked in beer. The beef stew seemed rather ordinary and I wasn’t really able to tell that it was cooked in beer anyway. At least the place seemed to be friendly with English menu. We had a couple of beers and we were one our way.
