We had almost gone out of the Historic Center of Bruges when my friend saw a sign pointing to another interesting sight. I was surprised with the sign since it refers to another one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites in Belgium. The sign refers to a Beguinage. The official UNESCO listing is the Flemish Beguinage. It is actually a collection of different sites, one of them happens to be in Bruges. This is another example of the UNESCO sites seemingly overlapping since the Historic Center of Bruges is already a world heritage site on its own. I think this just underscores the fact that Belgium has a lot of very important sites.
Unfortunately, my friend seems to have gotten tired. My friend has a bum knee and can’t really walk too much. I proceeded to the place myself. There was a nice bridge which crosses a canal here in the area. The scenery here seems to be quite beautiful and serene. I think my friend seems to be having a better time taking in all the scenery from the comfort of a bench. This hasn’t escaped the attention of the folk who used to live here as a beautiful and elegant house was built along the banks of the canal.
